Plant Spirit Initiation with Self Heal

September 5-7

Facilitated by Pamela DeGeyter, Fearn Lickfield and Hannah Mitchell

Self Heal; Prunella vulgaris, by Hannah Mitchell

Join us for a deeply transformative three day ceremony with a very special plant healer

at Dreamland Sanctuary, Worcester, VT.

on the unceded land of the Western Abenaki,

I had been wanting to facilitate a Plant Initiation but no plant was catching my eye (heart).  One day last summer I was sitting on my patio when I looked around and noticed a small plant growing between the stones.  It was Self-Heal. As I greeted her I felt a‘ping‘, as my mentor Pam Montgomery would say, in my heart! I knew the Self-Heal was stepping forward to be the Plant Initiator. Incidentally, I am a gardener and Self-Heal is one plant I will NOT weed out. I would say that I have loved this plant for years. It is an unassuming plant growing close to the earth, with a name telling of enormous possibilities! This herb has healing gifts for a wide range of physical ailments but most importantly she works on the mental, emotional and spiritual levels to stimulate our life forces. Self-Heal gives us the confidence that we have the inner forces to deal with any health or life challenges. She is stepping forward to guide and sustain us in these times.

What is PLANT INITIATION?

A Plant Initiation is an opportunity to work closely with a plant or tree, discovering the plant‘s gifts of healing for oneself, for others and for Mother Earth. This healing can take place on the physical, mental, emotional or spiritual planes.

A Plant Initiation is a ceremonial process in which we enter into a deeply transformative relationship with “common” plants and trees. These are not psycho-active plants, yet they each carry unique and important medicine. These green allies become our initiators, guiding us to re-member what it truly means to be human. The plants inspired this form of Initiation through the minds, hearts and hands of Pam Montgomery and before her, Carol Guyett. We walk in their footsteps with respect and gratitude for the path they have opened.

For thousands of years, initiation ceremonies have supported and challenged people to step into greater maturity, self knowledge, and a new role in community. Initiations were traditionally led by wise elders but in our modern world, many of us have become disconnected from the Web of Life and have lost touch with the old ways of knowing. When we walk through life without the blessing of initiation, we may feel lost, groundless, and without direction or connection to what is most sacred. Our natural thresholds in life such as puberty, childbirth, menopause and death too often go unrecognized.

The plants and trees are stepping forward to be our Elders in this time of the Great Turning. With their incredible wisdom, grace and generosity, they are helping us re-member our precious gifts and greater purpose in right relationship with Life. They have been here a lot longer than we have, and continue to lead the way as they evolve and grow with the changing Earth.

This Plant Initiation is offered as a three day ceremony. There will be a variety of ways in which you will be guided to engage with Self Heal. A strong container will be created and participants will be held throughout in the sanctuary of Dreamland. During this time we will be regularly ingesting an elixir of Self Heal. This elixir will be gathered and crafted in a ceremonial co-creative process to bring you the purest and strongest medicine possible. Participants are asked to fast from food during the three day Initiation ceremony, taking in only water and the plant elixir. This is known as plant dieting and has profound spiritual effects. If full fasting is not feasible for your body, just do the best you can. Healthy snacks will be available.

In preparation for the Initiation, participants are asked to refrain from certain foods and activities in respect and honor for our Plant Initiator. This allows the body, mind and spirit to be clear and open to receiving all the healing gifts they offer. Being in right relationship with our greater-than human relations can be a life changing experience.

We will be meeting Self Heal through dreaming, journeying, gazing, imbibing the elixir, mask making, through the Greenbreath and more. In the process we will have opportunities to re-member our rightful place in the Web of Life. We will re-member our symbiotic relationship with plants as we breathe in the life-giving oxygen that plants exhale, while the plants inhale the carbon dioxide that is our exhalation. In the evolution of the earth, plants came before humans. The plants, trees and sea vegetables are the only source of oxygen which humans need to exist.
